About The Hackathon

Join us for an exceptional opportunity to participate in the VanML 2023 Data Science Hackathon focused on the Social Determinants of Health (SDH) and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and welfare of vulnerable communities in British Columbia (BC). The event is held in person at the Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre in downtown Vancouver on September 23rd and 24th, from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Immerse yourself in a collaborative environment alongside prominent public health experts, data scientists and engineers, community non-profit organizations, leading scholars, and fellow students as you delve into the health domain through data science. While the event is tailored for students in data science and associated health disciplines, students from all backgrounds are welcome. There will be monetary winning prizes along with the certificate of participation. Additionally, lunch and refreshments are provided.

The hackathon combines learning, networking, and problem-solving within the captivating realm of health and data science. As a participant, you will gain unique hands-on experience and engage in friendly competition while solving real-world problems using data science techniques. Through impactful data provided by community stakeholders, such as United Way BC and the BC Centre for Disease Control, you will have the opportunity to learn about your communities and create a positive impact. Additionally, you will have the exclusive opportunity to attend informative workshops and receive mentorship from academic and domain experts. Together, we can leverage the power of data science and SDH to make our communities thrive.
